The challenge was to re-envision and animate two complimentary yet contrasting genres without losing the original meaning of either. Using the classic “Bigger Boat” scene from Jaws and the three main characters from SpongeBob SquarePants, an animatic was created that injected the fun of SpongeBob into the surprising reveal of the titular character of Jaws.

Three storyboard iterations were completed throughout the creation and animation process. Using the original film clip for timing inspiration, the scenes were developed and refined resulting in this final animation.

Created in PhotoShop, each character and prop were placed on individual layers to allow for specific animations throughout the animatic. Scenes were designed to coincide with the original movie dialog but with a more "SpongeBob" twist. Seventeen individual drawings were used for the twenty-one scenes that created the animation.
